Fall fun in Lake Tahoe

My wife and I went out to Lake Tahoe recently and had a blast. We caught it during off-season, so there were no crowds, and we were able to catch it before all the snow came in. The lake and surrounding forest and mountains are fantastically beautiful. I highly recommend you make the trip some time.

I'll post more on our trip over the next few days. Including some reviews on places went while we were there. We also have some great pictures, that I will link to as well.

I took this photo with my iPhone, and it is one of my favorite pictures from the trip:

Greetings from Bermuda!

As I said in an earlier post, last Friday was my last day at CompuPay. But before I start my new gig, Gillian and I are spending a week in Bermuda.

We arrived on Sunday and are having a fabulous time. We are spending most of our time in this city of Hamilton. As it turns out, Monday was Heritage day and while the shops were all closed, there was a great parade, and it was good to take in a local holiday.

On the food front (most important, right?), we have ate a couple of really great places including: La Trattoria (excellent pizza) and Restaurant Primavera (great Italian). You can't go wrong with either of these.

As is often the case when we travel outside of the US, soft-drinks are on a pay-per basis. So if you have a wicked Diet Coke habit, it can cost you. :)

That said the trip has been well worth it.

Tomorrow we are off on a tour of the island by boat. Gillian has taken some great pics and I hope to get them up shortly after our return.

Howdy Omaha!

Well, I just spent a couple of nights in Omaha down in the Old Town district, and we had a great time. My wife and I ventured out that way for a college graduation ceremony -- way to go Teri on your Masters of Science in Nursing.

We had a great time catching up with family and making some new friends. We stayed at a nice boutique hotel call "The Magnolia". Overall it was a nice hotel and we are glad we stayed there. However, we felt like some of their renovations were short sighted. For instance the tile shower was a little too slick and the lip was too low, which resulted in water getting into the bathroom floor. However, it was much better than some of the hotels I have stayed in in Amsterdam.

We checked out the Ameristar Casino seafood buffet in nearby Council Bluffs (just across the river), and it was worth the wait. Lots of really good food. I really enjoyed the southwest chicken. Gillian loved the create your own pasta area. If you go, go hungry, and be prepared to wait for a table if you have a large party.

The Old Market district was a blast, lots of great places to eat and shop. We checked out a great little brewery, I believe it was the Upstream Brewery. We also had a great lunch at the Dolcie Cafe.

Weekend in Philly

OK, so it occurred to me today that I've been rather lax in posting about our travels. In part that is because I haven't been able to do much lately.

That said, we did make a recent jaunt to the Philadelphia area to visit with one of my wife's friends Julie. We had a great time visiting with her and the kids. We also took along Flat Douglas (more on that later), to help us take in the sites. We had some great bagels at Einstein Bros., watched the kids ice skate, and had fun visiting.
